For many years, the gaming industry has used low-speed serial-based protocols to communicate between Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs) and back-end management systems. While these protocols satisfied many industry needs, the associated bandwidth limitations prevented the introduction of many advanced features such as software download and remote game configuration. The Game-to-System protocol (G2S) was designed to change all that. The goal was to create a new standard based on state-of-the-art network technologies that could replace the old serial-based protocols and provide a strong foundation for the future, allowing the introduction of the advanced features not possible with the serial-based protocols. This course introduces students to the theory and concepts behind G2S. Students will learn why the protocol was developed and what functionality is supported by the protocol, as well as the common building blocks used to construct the many classes of functionality within the protocol.
