the operator of Betway, has reported a record Q1 revenue as it contemplates the future of its loss-making US business. The company reported a revenue of €379.3 million in the first quarter of the year, marking a record Q1 and a 12 percent increase from the previous year. This revenue was generated primarily by the company’s sports betting-centred Betway (€222 million) and the iGaming-focused Spin brand (€157.3 million).

The company’s Africa and Middle East operations were responsible for 37 percent of the revenue, at €139.7 million. However, Super Group’s North American business remained the largest region by revenue, generating €140.9 million, primarily in Canada. In Q1 2024, the business reported €46.5 million in Adjusted EBITDA, up 29 percent from 2023. This resulted in a €41.0 million profit for the period, compared to last year’s €1.9 million loss.

The Q1 2024 numbers included a €40.1 million gain on the disposal of Digital Gaming Corporation’s B2B assets, as well as a €13.1 million non-cash charge. Super Group’s number of active customers also increased 33 percent year-on-year, to 4.7 million.

Super Group CFO Alinda van Wyk added: “We achieved record results for a first quarter of €374 million of revenue and €69 million of Adjusted EBITDA, for the ex-US business.”

Super Group today also announced it plans to take its tech stack in-house through a €140 million deal with its supplier, Apricot. The future of Super Group’s US business, which is currently under review, was a topic os call. The CEO said the company was looking at all options to make a decision that is in its long-term interest.

He added that iGaming was the company’s “bread and butter” and would likely play a role in any move to US profitability. He added: “This is a waiting game – over time different states can regulate and you’ve got to be in play to have a chance of success, we understand that. But there’s a cost of being in play and we just got to make sure what that cost is.”

Kangwon Land Inc., the exclusive operator of the only casino resort in has released its unaudited financial results for the first quarter of 2024. Despite a year-on-year decline of 8.5 percent in net profit, the company has shown resilience with a sequential increase of 26.0 percent from the final quarter of 2023, bringing the net profit to KRW92.9 billion (US$68.1 million).

The company’s gaming sales, primarily driven by mass-market table play and slot machines, have shown a promising increase. The first quarter of 2024 saw gaming sales rise to KRW316.2 billion, a 3.3 percent increase year-on-year and a 10.7 percent increase sequentially.of the company’s overall sales, which totaled KRW368.4 billion.

In addition to its gaming operations, Kangwon Land Inc. also reported non-gaming sales from its hotel, condominium, and skiing businesses. These non-gaming sales reached KRW52.2 billion, remaining steady from the previous year but showing a substantial 31 percent increase from the previous quarter.

The company’s operating profit for the first quarter was KRW75.9 billion, marking an 8.9 percent increase year-on-year and a remarkable 95.8 percent increase sequentially. Looking ahead, Kangwon Land Inc. has earmarked KRW116.8 billion for capital expenditure in 2024, aimed at enhancing resort attractions and other operational aspects. Of this budget, KRW81.9 billion is allocated for operating investment, including casino floor expansion, resort facility renovation and improvements, and gaming equipment. An additional KRW26.6 billion is set aside for the development of a water treatment facility and employee dormitories.

The Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has announced its plan to divide its Platform & Sportsbook and Media business units by Q3 2024. This strategic move is aimed at optimizing growth opportunities and ensuring both businesses can effectively leverage their operating models.

of €36.2 million in Q1 2024, a 28 percent increase year-on-year. The GiG Media business recorded €28 million in revenue during the quarter, up 51.9 percent from the same period the previous year. This growth is attributed to the fruitful acquisition of AskGamblers in February 2023 and the successful integration of KaFe Rocks in December 2023.

However, the Platform & Sportsbook division saw a decline in revenue by 17 percent to €8.3 million. The company attributes this to the accounting method for its GiG Enterprise Solution revenue, with most of it recorded in 2023. Excluding this solution, the business unit would have seen a year-on-year revenue growth of 5 percent.

The group’s adjusted EBITDA stood at €12.6m, up 8 percent from the previous year, despite a drop in EBITDA margin from 41.1 percent in Q1 2023 to 34.8 percent. The EBITDA growth varied between divisions, with GiG Media reporting a 69 percent growth to €13.5 million, while the Platform & Sportsbook division delivered a €0.8m EBITDA loss. The company attributes this loss to the fall in its GiG Enterprise Solution revenue and a significant rise in sales and marketing costs.

Despite these challenges, the company reported a €3.6m profit from continuing operations for the quarter. However, the market responded negatively to the financial report, with GiG’s share price falling 7.9 percent to SEK30.35 per share in early trading, before recovering to SEK31.35.

GiG is operationally ready for the planned split of its Media and Platform & Sportsbook divisions. The Media business, which will comprise the company’s affiliate and lead generation services, will be led by Jonas Warrer as CEO post-split, while Richard Carter will run the independent Platform & Sportsbook entity.

This strategic initiative, first announced as part of a February 2023 review, is geared towards expanding market reach and maximizing revenue opportunities. As GiG chairman Petter Nylander stated, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to creating sustainable long-term growth and value for its shareholders.
